The Eastern Visayas State University – Burauen Campus in Burauen, Leyte was previously referred to as Burauen Agro-Industrial School (BAIS). It was established on the 23rd of October 1975 by virtue of Republic Act No. 6629. On June 10, 1978, the issuance of Presidential Decree No. 1428, effectively amended RA 6629 by changing the name and status of the school into what it was known to be the Don Vicente Orestes Romualdez Agricultural College (DVORAC).
For about two decades, the college has been successfully responding to the realization of its avowed mission of providing the national and regional needs of professional and trained manpower. Republic Act No. 7959 was then approved on the 29th of March 1995, further converting the name of the college form Don Vicente Orestes Romualdez Agricultural College to Burauen Polytechnic College (BPC).
The law expanded the academic mandate and responsibility of the school by authorizing it to offer four-year degree programs in the field of Agriculture, Engineering, Arts and Sciences, three-year technical courses in Trade, Forestry, as well as short term skills and occupational courses. With the approval of CHED Memorandum Order No. 48 in 1998, the college geared its quadro-fold mandate, namely: Instruction, Research, Extension and Production in the role as a Teacher Training and Agricultural Technology institution in the region.
Effective January 1, 2000 pursuant to General Appropriations Act of 1999, the school was officially integrated with the Leyte Institute of Technology (LIT), Tacloban City. Finally, the passage of Republic Act No. 9311, a legislative act converting LIT into Eastern Visayas State University on August 7, 2004, the Eastern Visayas State University – Burauen Campus (EVSU-BC), heeding and sharing its humble commitment for global education, was officially established.
