Core Functions of the Office of Guidance Services:
- Facilitating Psycho-emotional development
- Facilitating academic and career adjustment
- Promoting social skills and leadership competencies
- Generating data relevant to instruction and learning
- Enhancing values for a productive and upright living
Inherent in its services is the Office of the Guidance Services’ aim: To help its clientele whether individually or collectively in their total development as human beings. It also hopes to carry on the mission-vision o the university through effective implementation of its guidance services, to wit:
1. COUNSELING SERVICE
This is the core of the guidance program around which other services revolve. The office provides the time, the place and the personnel required for skilled assistance. Through counseling, the student is assisted in learning to understand his/her problem and find ways of solving it. This maybe done individually or in a group (individual counseling/group counseling).
2. INDIVIDUAL INVENTORY SERVICE
This service aims at maintaining comprehensive informational records of students gathered and synthesized with the use of OGS Forms as they go through school. This facilities better understanding of student problems and needs. These records are strictly confidential.
3. TESTING SERVICE
Tests of varied types are given to help asses individual and group needs towards growth and development. Test results aid in better self-awareness. Various standardized testing materials for different year levels and different areas are available at the office.
4. VOCATIONAL AND CAREER GUIDANCE SERVICE
This involves a conscious process of career education. Students are assisted in developing proper values, attitudes and aspirations regarding work which is not only for self-sustenance but also to contribute to the community.
5. GROUP GUIDANCE SERVICES
This is an extension of the counseling assistance to large groups concerning common problems in personal, social, academic and vocational areas. This service includes homeroom guidance. It makes it possible for student to seek help without fear of being identified with a particular problem to maintain the individual’s wholesome relationship with her/his peers.
6. REFERRAL SERVICE
This service aims to help the students by identifying cooperating agencies in the community where professional help could be obtained for particular problems.
7. INFORMATION SERVICE
The service which is done through orientation provides essential information to students regarding the school program, activities, projects, staff services and facilities. It also provides information of different vocational and professional areas. Information is disseminated through flyers, bulletin board display and various fora.
8. TRAINING PEER COUNSELORS
This services helps develop capable and responsible students acquire knowledge and skills in order to help the Guidance Staff reach out to more students.
9. ADMISSION AND PLACEMENT SERVICES.
This services aims at assisting the school in the screening of students as well as teacher and administrative applicants. Testing is a necessary tool of these services.
