Embarking on a cultural odyssey, Kanyaw 2023: Rayhak EVSUNISTA illuminated the Burauen Community Center on December 5, 2023. Eastern Visayas State University – Burauen Campus (EVSU-BC) orchestrated a symphony of diversity through various performances, uniting EVSUnistas and Burawanons, and celebrating the diversity in cultures with a resounding call for unity.
The event kicked off with preliminaries led by the EVSU chorale, followed by opening remarks from Dr. Renato E. Martija, the campus director of EVSU-BC, highlighting the true meaning of the celebrationโ€” by bringing individuals of diverse origins together.

In the spirit of celebration, EVSU-BC Performing Arts showcased the talent of EVSU students through their ‘Kanta’ and ‘Sayaw’ presentations, eliciting admiration and joy from students, guests, and visitors.
Meanwhile, EVSU – Tacloban Campus’ performing arts further enriched the night with their singing and dancing alongside the EVSU chorale and SAMLEYAW, garnering resounding cheers and applause from the crowd.

Additionally, the teaching and non-teaching personnel of EVSU-BC graced the show as they dazzled the crowd and flickered on the floor.
In an interview, the Campus Director expressed appreciation and shared thoughts on the success of the event.

“I didn’t know that the number of parts sa EVSU-Burauen Campus is that big, I was thinking all the while na three or two, but I was really surprised even with the participation of the teachers and non-teaching staffsโ€ฆ I’m very glad that the students are here who watched the show, and as I have said, I was not expecting that this show would be spectacular,” said Dr. Martija.

Furthermore, Ms. Kyla Ramilo, Head of EVSU-BC Culture and Arts, underscored the achievement of KANYAW 2023, acknowledging the contributors to the event’s success and emphasizing that true success is rooted in their dedication and time.

“It did not only achieved my expectations, it surpassed my expectations! Truly, it is more than what I had expected, EVSU -BC performing arts and chorus did an amazing performance and of course the faculty. May this be an onset of more and more performances and successful events. This success is truly worth celebrating, Rayhak EVSUNISTA!,” exclaimed Ms. Ramilo.

Moreover, Ms. Jean Laquela, a performer from the EVSU-Main Campus’ Performing Arts, shared her experience about this year’s KANYAW.

“Actually it was my first time joining this performance and yes, it was so tiring but I’m happy, and I did enjoy. Thank you, Burauen,” said Ms. Laquela.

The KANYAW 2023 proved that together, EVSU soars high, gets stronger and better, and indeed, moving forward and beyond!

This event not only showcased the talented EVSUnistas but also fostered unity beyond diverse cultures.
